Thighplasty
The inner thigh area is a place on most people that they wish they could make slimmer to improve their appearance both in and out of clothing. This area is notoriously finicky and many people who have lost a significant amount of weight will notice that there is redundant skin and soft tissues present that rubs together and hangs, often causing rashes and distress about their appearance. Thankfully, the area of excess skin and fat in this area can be removed and tightened to improve the contour of the thigh with a thigh lift.
Patients who have a laxity or looseness of their inner thigh area often due to weight changes (gain or loss) and desire improvement in the contour of their thighs. Patients should not have a history of lower extremity swelling and their weight should be relatively stable to optimize results.
Additional Information
-
The excess skin and soft tissue is usually located in the medial or inner thigh so an incision is made from the knee to the groin area on the inner part of the thigh to hide the final scar as much as possible. This allows maximal skin removal and tightening.
-
While liposuction to contour the thighs and remove excess fat to help in skin removal is usually performed with the thigh lift, liposuction alone in the setting of excess skin will not provide enough skin retraction and will continue to leave you with saggy skin. In certain situations, liposuction alone may be sufficient but this will need to be discussed with you at the time of your evaluation.

Anytime a large space is created in the body, in this case with the removal of the excess thigh skin and fat, the body responds by creating fluid due to the inflammatory process. While the body will absorb a fair amount of this fluid on its own, there is a capacity for the given space, with excess fluid just accumulating and a potential source of infection. To help prevent this accumulation, a drain is often placed for 7-10 days to remove this fluid and allow the tissues to heal to each other.

You are placed in a compression garment or ACE wrap to help with post-operative swelling and bruising. You’ll be asked to keep your legs elevated as much as possible for the first 1-2 weeks after surgery and avoid stretching of the lower extremities or strenuous activity for 4-6 weeks while the incisions heal. Walking and performing your daily activities (going up and down stairs, etc) is encouraged but you should expect to be sore and move slowly while performing these tasks.

The cost of a thigh lift ranges from $5000 - $6000, not including OR, implant or anesthesia fees.
