Arm Lift
Brachioplasty
The upper arm area is a place on most people that they wish they could make slimmer and eliminate the arm jiggle when they wave. This area is notoriously finicky and many people who have lost a significant amount of weight will notice that there is redundant skin and soft tissues present that no matter how much they exercise they can’t seem to improve. Thankfully, the area of excess skin and fat in this area can be removed and tightened to improve the contour of the upper arm with a brachioplasty.
Patients who have a laxity or looseness of posterior or back of the arm often due to weight changes (gain or loss) and desire improvement in the contour of their arms are good candidates for a brachioplasty (arm lift). Patients should not have a history of upper extremity swelling and their weight should be relatively stable to optimize results.
Additional Information
-
An incision is usually made along the inside part of the upper arm from the elbow to the arm pick to hide the final scar as much as possible while your arms are down at your sides. This allows maximal skin removal and tightening while minimizing the visibility of the scar.
-
While liposuction to contour the arms and remove excess fat to help in skin removal is usually performed with a brachioplasty, liposuction alone in the setting of excess skin will not provide enough skin retraction and will continue to leave you with saggy skin. In certain situations, liposuction alone may be sufficient, but this will need to be discussed with at the time of your evaluation.
-
You are placed in a compression sleeve or ACE wrap to help with post-operative swelling and bruising. You’ll be asked to keep your arms elevated as much as possible for the first 1-2 weeks after surgery and avoid strenuous activity or heavy lifting for 4-6 weeks while the incisions heal. Walking and performing your daily activities (going up and down stairs, showering, washing hair, etc) is encouraged but you should expect to be sore and move slowly while performing these tasks.
-
The cost of a brachioplasty (arm lift) ranges from $4000 - $6000, not including OR, implant or anesthesia fees.
