Cellulite therapy
Cellulite or unwanted dimpling of the gluteal or thigh skin is a very common problem that is troubling to patients, some to the point that they refuse to wear shorts or tight-fitting clothes. While many treatment modalities have been tried in the past with minimal success and invasiveness, there is a new, non-surgical treatment that has shown great promise for the improvement of these unwanted dimples known as QWO®.
Cellulite is caused by areas of fat within the skin that are trapped around firm areas of connective tissue that creates an “orange peel look” and is much more common in women than men. QWO® is a collagenase enzyme that treats these area of connective tissue by breaking them up and allowing the fat to redistribute to achieve a smoother appearance of the skin.
The areas to be treated are marked in a standing position with QWO® given as an injection directly into the areas of cellulite. The experience is similar to Botox® so the pain with injection is very minimal. The entire process takes approximately 10-15 minutes.
Additional Information
-
Currently, QWO® is approved for treatment of moderate to severe cellulite of the buttocks in women but other areas of treatment are being actively researched.
-
QWO® is currently given over a series of three injections performed 21 days apart between sessions.
-
QWO® is contraindicated in patients who have a known hypersensitivity reaction to collagenase, have an active infection at the injection site, are on an anticoagulant/antiplatelet medication or have a known history of bleeding disorders.
-
Most patients will experience bruising, pain, nodule and swelling in the treated areas for 1-2 weeks while the enzymatic reaction breaks down the connective tissue bands. There may also be some itchiness in the area as healing progresses.
