Implants
While many people are aware of the use of breast implants to augment the size and shape of female breasts, what most don’t realize is that there is a wide array of implants that can be used in male patients to enhance the size and shape of their body to better fit with their body.
Where can implants be used?
Implants are commonly used in male patients to improve the jaw and chin to give a more chiseled, masculine look and is the most common location for implants in men. However, implants are also used to enhance the chest, abdomen and calf muscles to create a more muscular appearance.

While the incision location will vary depending on the type of implant used and the location that the implant is being place, every attempt is made to hide the incisions within a natural tissue fold or crease. In the case of the chin/jaw implants, the incisions are placed within the mouth so there is no external scar.
-
The majority of implants used are silicone based with different shapes and densities to achieve the desired look and requiring rigidity for the areas that they are being placed. There are facial implants that are made of a porous polyethylene that allows tissue ingrowth to allow for a more rigid and less mobile implant.
-
Using smaller and smaller incisions, the recovery from implant placement has improved significantly. There is some swelling and bruising to be expected regardless of implant site. Most patients will require minimal pain medications in the ensuing days after surgery. Return to work and strenuous activity will vary depending on patient factors.
