Face & Neck Lift

Face Lift

As we age, the soft tissues in our face tend to become ptotic or sag due to gravity. This causes the natural fat pads in our face to sit lower creating a fuller look in our lower face along the edges of the nose and neck (aka jowls), while a lack of volume in our upper face or cheek areas. This downward pull of the deeper tissues is usually accompanied by laxity or excess skin making the person appear even older. A face lift can be used to correct these signs of aging by repositioning these tissues and removing the excess skin to create a more youthful appearing you.

Dr Maiorino performs a SMAS facelift. In this procedure, he will separate the skin layer from the deeper superficial muscular aponeurotic system (SMAS) layer that helps support the structure of the face. It is this layer, the SMAS, that is lifted and tightened to provide the more youthful appearance. The excess skin is carefully trimmed so that no tension is placed on the skin which prevents the over tightened appearance and allows for the best appearing scar.

Patients who have deep nasolabial folds, jowls, or excess facial skin/laxity due to aging and want a more youthful appearance are good candidates for a facelift. You should have a realistic expectation about what is achievable with a facelift and should not be a smoker or have any medical conditions that inhibit wound healing.

Additional Information

  • A big concern many patients have is that the incisions and scar will be visible to everyone so great care is taken to place the incision line along the hairline and around both the front and back of the ear in a way that makes it as hidden as possible.

  • While a facelift can be performed under “twilight” anesthesia, Dr Maiorino usually recommends general anesthesia to his patients for their comfort. The anesthesia options are individualized to each patient in conjunction with the patient, Dr Maiorino and the anesthesiologist.

  • The discomfort from a facelift is usually well tolerated and is mainly due to the swelling that is present. Most patients will require some pain medication for the first 3-5 days. A small drain will be placed to prevent the accumulation of fluid. The sutures that are placed along the incision line are usually removed the first week after surgery.

  • The cost of a facelift ranges from $7000 - $8000, not including OR, implant or anesthesia fees.

Neck Lift

As we age, the soft tissues in our face and neck tend to become ptotic or sag due to gravity. This can cause an excess of tissue to hang underneath the chin area creating a “turkey neck” or double chin appearance with loose, hanging skin.  A neck lift can be used to correct this sign of aging by tightening the neck and removing the excess skin to create a more youthful appearance.

Patients who have a “turkey neck”, double chin, neck banding or excess neck skin/laxity due to aging and want a more youthful appearance are good candidates for a neck lift. You should have a realistic expectation about what is achievable with a neck lift and should not be a smoker or have any medical conditions that inhibit wound healing.

Additional Information

  • In order to properly tighten the neck muscles (platysma) and remove the excess skin, an incision is made underneath the chin and behind, sometimes in front of, the ear. These incisions are placed in such a way as to minimize their visibility once they have healed.

  • While a facelift can be performed under “twilight” anesthesia, Dr Maiorino usually recommends general anesthesia to his patients for their comfort. The anesthesia options are individualized to each patient in conjunction with the patient, Dr Maiorino and the anesthesiologist.

  • The discomfort from a neck ift is usually well tolerated and is mainly due to the swelling that is present. Most patients will require some pain medication for the first 3-5 days and will feel a mild tightness in the neck area that will resolve with time to a more natural feel. A small drain will be placed to prevent the accumulation of fluid. The sutures that are placed along the incision line are usually removed the first week after surgery.

  • The cost of a neck lift ranges from $4500 - $5500, not including OR, implant or anesthesia fees.
