Ear Pinning
& Earlobe Reduction
Prominent ears and ear lobe widening/tears from heavy ear ring usage are the two most common cosmetic ear procedures performed. A prominent ear can be caused by excess ear cartilage, cartilage malformation or a combination of the two. Correction of these issues will improve the facial appearance and give a balanced, more naturally positioned ear.
The incisions for ear pinning are placed behind the ear in the crease to hide the final scar. For the ear lobe repair, the scarred tissue is removed, and the ear closed to itself to create a linear or vertical scar on the ear lobe.
additional information
-
The cause of a prominent ear in some patients will be related to excess cartilage known as conchal hypertrophy. In this situation, a small section of cartilage from the conchal bowl or the cup like part of the ear will be removed to allow for the ear to be set back in a more natural position without changing the size or shape of the ear dramatically.
-
While the overall size of your ear will remain the same, some patients will find that they will need to adjust the size of their headphones ear buds after surgery.
-
You will have some swelling and bruising of the ear and surrounding areas that can take several weeks to settle. You’ll need to wear a head band or sweat band over the ears for 1 month to help keep them against the head to allow them to heal in the proper position without tension.
-
You should wait approximately 6 weeks after ear lobe repair prior to getting your lobes re-pierced.
-
The cost of an ear lobe repair ranges from $800 - $1200.
The cost of ear pinning (otoplasty) ranges from $3000 - $4000, not including OR, implant or anesthesia fees.
